OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

This Section describes the procedure to be followed to prepare the SELECTOR
INTEGRA for operation. It is important that readers of this Section are familiar
with the theory and description of the system as covered in the earlier Sections of
this manual and with the safety and operational precautions detailed in Appendix
3. Instructions for the sterilisation and maintenance of the handpieces and their
maintenance are described in Section 6.
To use the SELECTOR INTEGRA you will require the following items in addition
®
to the Console:
SELECTOR INTEGRA Service Module or wall suction outlet
®
One or two Abbott RECEPTAL
with protective filter
SELECTOR Tubing Kit
®
Sterile intravenous fluid in container (500ml isotonic saline is recommended)
Two sterile SELECTOR handpieces (one for the procedure and a second available
®
for backup)
SELECTOR handpiece wrench set, appropriate to the handpieces
®
SELECTOR
® MicroSurgical Tubing Kit (If MicroSurgical handpiece is used)
To prepare the SELECTOR
1 Place the SELECTOR
or on a suitable trolley and position it in a convenient location outside the
sterile field.
2 Using the power cord provided, attach the instrument to a suitable grounded
electrical outlet; plugging the power cord into the receptacle provided on the
upper left corner of the Console rear panel.
If the SELECTOR

as follows: -
a) Open the rear door of the Service Module and locate the power cord.
Connect this to the output socket provided on the left of the Console
rear panel.
b) Place an Abbott RECEPTAL
and connect the tubes in the suction canister area following Figure 1 or
2 depending upon whether one or two canisters are to be employed.
If an alternative type of waste collection vessel is employed, follow
the set-up instruction provided by its manufacturer (and ensure that
a filter is fitted to protect the vacuum pump in the Service Module).
