4-Using the Completed Multisounds

; I Multisounds and Synthesizer Operation
■ A s we have described, up to 16 sounds may be
assigned to the keyboard in each multisound- Fur
thermore, up to 16 M U L T IS O U N D S may stored in
wave memory at once. From among these 16 multi-
sounds you can assign one multisound to oscillator-2
(OSC-2) and one multisound to oscillator-1 (OSC-1).
(At this point, things become similar to the operation
of a conventional synthesizer. Instead of choosing
from square and sawtooth waves for each oscillator,
you choose from your multisounds.)

Tips for Synthesis With Multisounds
i 2 i
■ Though you have complete freedom to make many
different sounds and assign up to 16 of them to the
keyboard as one multisound, you only have one set of
VCF, V G A and other controls to use to process them.
In other words, you can't set the V G A EG to produce
rapid attenuation for the lower half of the keyboard
while producing long sustain for the top half.

■ From here on you can use the D SS-1 in almost exact
ly the sam e way as a conventional analog synthe
sizer. The multisounds simply serve as your sound
sources or oscillator waveforms. You can change oc
taves, change the mix ratio, set intervals, detunmgs,
automatic pitch bends, etc.
You also use the V C F and V G A facilities in the usual
way, and you can use the equalizer tone controls and
digital delays to further process the sound.
