Initial startup

4.1

Connecting charging cables to BAT 645

Push the red/black charging cable into the port on
the BAT 645 until it cannot go any further and is
secure.

4.2

Install the wall mounting

Depending on the mounting surface, select appropriate
bolts and anchors for fastening the wall mounting. The
type of fastening depends on the mounting surface
(e.g. concrete, hollow block, perforated metal plate,
wooden panel). Consult specialty retailer or particular
manufacturer for information. The overall weight of the
wall mounting with the BAT 645 attached can be as
much as approx. 6 kg. Therefore only use screws and
anchors that can withstand this load.

1. Sufficiently fasten the wall mounting depending, taking
the mounting surface into account.
2. Hook BAT 645 into wall mounting.

The four bases of the BAT 645 must always be
Hooked into the wall mounting at the top and
bottom. The charging cables and power supply cable
can be hooked into the wall mounting (see fig. 2).

Operation

5.1

Essential information

Danger – Flammable gases released when
charging defective batteries!
Risk of serious injury or death due to gas
explosion.
Avoid naked flames and spark formation.
1. Do not switch off the BAT 645 and do not
remove the charging clips.
2. Thoroughly ventilate the area immediately.
3. Switch off the BAT 645 after ventilating.
5.1.1

Installation location

Place BAT 645 on a solid subsurface or hook onto
the fastened wall mounting.
The installation location must have an adequate
loadbearing capacity. Pay attention to the weight
of the BAT 645 and the weight of the battery to be
charged.
Note and maintain a safe distance of 0.5 m between
the BAT 645 and battery.
Protect the BAT 645 against damp and moisture.
Never cover up the BAT 645.
On installing the BAT 645 maintain a lateral
clearance of at least 15 cm for ventilation.
5.1.2

Connecting and charging

Voltage must be supplied to the BAT 645 via a
grounded mains voltage system.
Only use of the charging cables supplied by Bosch.
The power supply cable and charging cables must
be in perfect condition.
Never extend or shorten charging cables.
Only charge batteries in well ventilated areas.
Avoid naked flames and spark formation when
charging batteries.
Only connect intact batteries in parallel for charging.
Do not attempt to charge non-rechargeable batteries.
Do not charge lithium iron phosphate batteries (LFP
= LiFePO
) without the battery management system

(BMS).
Switch off all electrical equipment in the vehicle
whilst charging (also applies to charging of
exhausted batteries).
Set the On/Off switch to "0" (OFF) before
connecting the BAT 645 to the mains voltage system.
When charging vehicle batteries in the installed
condition, connect the black terminal clip (‒) to the
body, away from the battery and fuel pipe line.
Switch off the BAT 645 before disconnecting the
charging clips.
Never disconnect the terminal clips while a battery
is being charged.
Never disconnect the battery from the vehicle
electrical system whilst charging is in progress.
