Attach a washer and jam nut to the screw.
Insert the screw through the "clearance hole".
Hand thread the screw to the new cam follower.
Use the jam nut to pull the cam follower into the cartridge.
Remove screw, washer and jam nut used in step 2 and replace with the retaining SHCS (Item #32).
Repeat for other cam followers.
Cam follower cartridge installation
Cam follower cartridges will be installed one at a time through the follower access hole in the top of the
housing.
Use protective gloves while handling cam followers after they have been
packed in dry ice.

Coat the follower cartridge hole with anti-seize lubricant. Quickly place a cam follower cartridge
that has been packed in dry ice for at least three (3) hours into the cartridge hole.

Using a twisting motion of the hand, push the cam follower cartridge downward hard enough to
press the cam follower into the follower wheel hole. Make sure the shoulder on the cam follower
seats against the follower wheel. Do not rush the process; just proceed quickly and with sure
movements.

If the cam follower cartridge cannot be seated by using a twisting motion of the hand and
pushing upward, use a soft faced hammer to drive the cam follower cartridge into the follower
wheel.

If the hammer does not seat the cam follower cartridge use a hydraulic jack to push the cam
follower cartridge into the follower wheel.
Make sure the shoulder of the cam follower cartridge is seated against the
follower wheel and make sure the follower cartridge is installed straight and in
line with the hole. Damage to the cam follower, follower wheel or cam could
occur if the cam follower is improperly aligned during installation.

Install the two round clamps (Item #34) on either side of cam follower cartridge, assembled as
shown in sketch titled "Cam Follower Replacement MDE-Series Index Drives" in this Service
Manual. Use Red Perma-Lok
tightening torque depends on the size of the cam follower. See the table titled "Torque
Requirements for Tightening Screws" in this Service Manual for tightening torque

Repeat steps to install all cam followers.
