Before you perform service, the appliance that the storage shelf is attached to needs to be turned
off with a soft shutdown. A soft shutdown informs the NetBackup Appliance operating system to
stop and close all active processes. A soft shutdown also stops all communications to the attached
storage shelf or shelves. After the operating system stops all of the processes, the appliance
powers itself off.
To perform a soft shutdown, use the
Menu.
Note: Before performing a soft shutdown, ensure that all backup and restore operations have
been completed.
Warning: You should never perform a hard shutdown by using the power button to turn off the
NetBackup Appliance. Using the power button to turn off the NetBackup Appliance can cause
data corruption to occur.

After the appliance is shut down, you must turn off the storage shelf and any other storage shelves
that are attached to the appliance. On the rear panel of the storage shelf, turn both power switches
to OFF to turn off the shelf.

Verify that the appliance and the storage shelf or shelves are shut down.
