The task of the FINDER in the retrieval phase is to allow for withdrawing the slides
from the racks contained in the ARKIVE cabinets, in a safe and traceable manner, and
for transferring them automatically into the slide-holder cartridges in a safe and
traceable manner.
The retrieval procedure begins when a pathologist, or in any case an authorised person
in charge, requests a list of slides from the LIS management system.
The system software, appropriately interfaced with the LIS via API-web services,
receives the list of slides and creates the retrieval mission.
As with the archiving, the retrieval mission is broadcast to all the operators'
smartphones and the mission begins when the first available appropriately trained
operator accepts the same by clicking on the relative button.
The operator is directed on the smartphone display to the ARKIVE cabinets where the
racks containing the slides to be retrieved are located.
The operator goes to the area of the cabinets, which are illuminated with the put/pick-
to-light technology in order to make it easier for the operator to identify where the
racks with the slides to be retrieved are located.
The operator retrieves the racks by following the monitored and tracked access process
to the ARKIVE cabinets and takes them to the FINDER station.
The operator authenticates him/herself on the FINDER display in order to make it
operational. Without this authentication the FINDER will not move.
After being authenticated, the operator takes care of loading the first full rack and the
empty cartridge, ready to receive the slides to be retrieved, into the appropriate
housings of the FINDER.
Once the cartridge has been loaded, the operator clicks the start button on the FINDER
display and the device starts to transfer the slides from the rack into the cartridge.
