THE DEFAULT DRIVE
You can select which of the computer's two disk drives you wish to
use for any given operation. Each time you load DOS, your computer
will establish a default drive. This simply means that it establishes
the drive that it assumes you wish to use. Unless you specify oth-
erwise, your DOS commands will be carried out using the default
drive.
If DOS is loaded from the diskette drive (drive A:), the computer
will designate drive A: as the default drive. Conversely, if DOS is
loaded from the fixed disk drive (drive C:), the computer will des-
ignate drive C: as the default drive.
Your monitor screen tells you which drive has been established as
the default drive. If the diskette drive is the default drive, the DOS
prompt displayed on your screen will be the A> symbol; if the fixed
disk drive is the default drive, the DOS prompt displayed on your
screen will be the C> symbol.
