1.0 PURPOSE

This document has been prepared for Field Technician use during routine, periodic and
calibration visits to ambient air monitoring sites in the Florida air monitoring network utilizing a
Teledyne API Model T640 PM
all the technical details that are included in the T640 instruction manual, or quality assurance
information in 40 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Parts 50, 53, and 58; EPA Technical
Assistance Documents (TAD's), and related reference materials. Adherence to this manual will
enable the site Field Technician to know and follow state-wide quality control/quality assurance
(QA/QC) requirements. Site Field Technicians however, should be knowledgeable of and refer
to the references noted in this Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

2.0 SCOPE AND APPLICABILITY

The purpose of this SOP is to provide a set of uniform protocols for installation, operation,
maintenance, calibration, quality control (QC), and quality assurance (QA) of the Teledyne
Model T640 particulate matter (PM) monitor. The procedures are based on instructions set forth
in the manufacturer's manual; requirements specified in Appendix A to 40 CFR Part 58, and the
FDEP Quality Assurance Project Plan. They are intended for use by the operator during routine,
periodic, and unscheduled visits to the monitoring station.
All operations, maintenance, and procedures outlined in this SOP will be for the T640
configured for use in collecting PM
IMPORTANT: Before beginning any operation described in this document, ensure that any
related manuals and SOPs are available for reference.

3.0 SUMMARY OF THE COLLECTION METHOD

The Teledyne API Model T640 is a real-time, continuous particulate matter (PM) mass monitor
that uses scattered light spectrometry for measurement; specifically, it employs broadband
spectroscopy using 90° white-light scattering with polychromatic light-emitting diode (LED).
There are two designated methods using the T640 instrumentation. The model T640 with 640
option (T640) is an approved Federal Equivalent Method (FEM) for PM10 [EQPM-0516-239],
PM2.5 [EQPM-0516-238] and PM10--2.5 [EQPM-0516-240], The T640 operates at a total flow
of
16.7 lpm and this SOP is written specifically for this method. The model T640 is an approved
FEM for PM2.5 [EQPM-0516-236]. The T640 also measures PM10 and PM10-2.5, but only the
PM2.5 fraction meets FEM requirements. The T640 operates at a total flow of 5.0 lpm.
