1. GENERAL
This Component Maintenance Manual (CMM) documents the operation of, and suggested
maintenance for, the Model FA5000 Cockpit Voice Data Recorder, including the following
part numbers: 5001-6103−( ), 5011-6103-( ), 5001−6133-( ), 5003-6103-( ), herein after
referred to as the Model FA5000CVDR or FA5000.
The FA5000CVDR meets the performance requirements of ED-112, while complying with
the interface requirements of cockpit voice input data. In addition, the cockpit voice and
area microphone channels are lowpass filtered, sampled, digitized, and stored in solid-
state, crash protected memory. This CMM covers the 2-hour Audio memory storage ver-
sions of the FA5000CVDR.
The FA5000CVDR accepts flight input data at 64/128/256/512/1024 WPS while comply-
ing with ED-112. This CMM covers 50-hour Flight Data memory storage versions of the
FA5000CVDR.
The FA5000CVDR that are equipped with a Video Expansion Card gets digital video in
ITU656 digital frame format, and compresses it using Motion JPEG compression every
200 milliseconds (5 frames per second). It then writes the resulting compressed frame to
the combined packet in 40 millisecond chunks to match the audio synchronization. This
CMM covers the 2-hour Video memory storage versions of the FA5000CVDR.
The FA5000 is designed as maintenance-free recorder. No periodic adjustments, calibra-
tion, or maintenance is required to maintain this unit. The Model FA5000 is considered
an "ON CONDITION LRU."
