A. Printed Wiring Assembly Cleaning
(1) Remove dust, dirt, and foreign matter from all surfaces, using soft-bristle brush
(See Table 401).
(2) Wipe finished surfaces and contacts, using a cloth moistened in solvent (See
Table 401).
B. Connector Cleaning
(1) Wipe dust and dirt from connectors, using a lint-free cloth, moistened with
solvent (See Table 401).
C. Underwater Locator Beacon Cleaning
The beacon cleaning procedure requires no disassembly and consists only of clean-
ing the center contact of the beacon water switch at least once every 24 months
(more frequently under high humidity conditions). Make sure the beacon case and
water switch are free of dirt and/or grease film. If necessary, take the beacon out of
the Beacon Mounting Bracket as shown in Figure 401 and wipe clean with approved
cleaning agent and soft lint-free cloth. The water switch end insulator must be free
of dirt, lint, or moisture to prevent current from leaking across the switch.
The Beacon is equipped with a battery having an expected life same as the beacon
replacement date on the beacon. The battery installed in the beacon is field replace-
able.
As a general rule, the beacon should be removed from service on or before the re-
placement date printed on the beacon. A new replacement beacon may be ordered,
if needed, directly from Aviation Recorders using these numbers.
