INTRODUCTION

These instructions explain the operation and use of the main functions of the SEMS
II Pro Wireless SCBA Telemetry System (SEMS II Pro). Follow the REGULAR
OPERATIONAL INSPECTION procedure as described. If any function fails to
operate as described, do not use the equipment. Remove the unit from service and
tag for repair by authorized personnel.
This system communicates only with Firefighter Resources (Respirator Users)
using a 3M Scott Air-Pak X3 Pro SCBA equipped with the integrated SEMS II Pro.
Complete training in the use of the SEMS II Pro equipment is required before actual
use in a hazardous environment. If the equipment does not work as described
in these instructions, remove the equipment from service and tag it for repair by
authorized personnel.

SEMS II PRO OVERVIEW

The SEMS II Pro system is a wireless SCBA telemetry system that provides
monitoring of and communication between respirator users in a hazardous area
and an incident commander or other designated person outside the hazardous area
(at the Base Station).
The complete system consists of:
• PASS Device: A Personal Alert Safety System (PASS) device on a
compatible self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) such as the 3M
Scott Air-Pak X3 Pro SCBA
respirator backframe, the PASS device monitors the motion of respirator
backframe and initiates visible and audible warnings when the user is
motionless for a short period of time or when manually activated by the
user.
• Pak-Tracker Locator System: A two-part electronic system consisting of a
radio transmitter and a Hand Held Receiver (HHR) to locate the transmitted
signal from an activated PASS device within 1100 feet.
• Sensor Module Assembly: Electronics control module for battery power,
audio (alarm tones), the Pak-Tracker radio transmitter, data logging,
wireless communications, and the motion sensor.
Installation of the PASS device is approved by the National Institute of Occupational Safety
1
and Health (NIOSH) on specific models of 3M Scott Fire & Safety SCBAs
