G5 Diode Buildup and Resistor Method A

Figure 3-8 shows the installation procedure for the resistors and diode into the wiring harness. For part
numbers of resistors and diode, see Section 3.2.1. Figure 3-9 shows the placement requirements of the
resistors on the CAN bus wiring. Figure 3-13 shows the placement requirements of the diode on the G5
power wire. See Section 5 for complete wiring interconnect details.
Steps for component installation:
1. Solder component to wire per SAE AS4461.
Note: Acceptable solder types are SN60 or SN63. Clean Flux residues using an appropriate flux
cleaner.
2. Cover component and at least 0.5 inch of wire on each side of component leads with heatshrink as
shown above. Shrink in place.
Note 1: Use heatshrink M23053/5-104-Y for the diode, use M23053/5-106-Y for the resistor. The
"-Y" character is for color of heatshrink, color of heatshrink is the installer's choice.
Note 2: For the diode, mark the banded end of the diode on the heatshrink with permanent ink.
3. Bend component leads back over the component, bend must begin a minimum of 0.25 inch from
the component.
4. Secure to bundle with cable ties on either side of the component.
Note: The "-Z" character in the cable tie P/N is for color, color of cable tie is the installer's
choice.
