Thread (3) downfeed handles into downfeed

Use acetone or lacquer thinner to clean
spindle and chuck mating surfaces.

Retract chuck jaws completely into chuck.

Push chuck onto spindle taper, then use
a wood block and hammer or mallet to hit
chuck once with moderate force as shown in
Figure 14.
Note: Hitting chuck directly with a steel ham-
mer may damage chuck, making it unsafe to
use.

9.
Attempt to separate spindle and chuck by
hand—if they separate, repeat Steps 6–8.
