Before proceeding, back up your system according to you normal procedures.
4.1.2 Verify the Availability of the Required Device Driver
Verify that the disc3 device driver is included in your current kernel configuration file
(usually /etc/conf/gen/s800). To do this, type:
lsdev 7 (7 is the major number specified in Table 4-1)
If the device driver is part of your current kernel configuration file, the system will return a
message showing the major number, device driver name, and device class.
If this is the case, proceed to the next step.
If the system returns the message ***no such driver***, you will have to edit the kernel
configuration file to include the necessary drives and then reconfigure the kernel. You can
either:
Use SAM for the whole procedure, or
Edit the kernel using commands.
4.1.2.1 Using SAM
1. Run SAM.
2. Highlight and open Kernel Configuration
3. Highlight and open Drivers
4. Add the necessary drivers
Use SAM's help system to complete the task or refer to "Adding Device Drivers Using SAM"
in the Installing Peripherals manual.
4.1.2.2 Editing the Kernel Using Commands
1. Edit the kernel configuration file using a text editor.
2. Reconfigure the kernel using the uxgen command.
Refer to "Setting up Devices Using HP-UX Commands" in the Installing Peripherals man-
ual.
