Steps 1 and 2 take place inside
the chassis.
Look at the replacement part
carefully to help identify and
locate the component to be
replaced.
It is recommended that you
mark the power cable
connector so that you use this
same connector when
installing your replacement
drive. However, you can
actually use any available
connector on the power cable.
A white data cable signifies a
40 pin connector.
A purple data cable signifies
an 80 pin connector used for
16X and higher DVDs.

IV. Locating and Removing the CD-ROM, CD-RW,
and DVD Drives
1. Locate the CD-ROM, CD-RW, or DVD Drive inside the
chassis (see Figure 4-1). The drives can be identified by
the CD icons located on the interior drive cage.
2. Disconnect the Power Cable 1 1 1 1 , Data Cable 2 2 2 2 (and
Audio Cable 3 3 3 3 if there is one) from the drive by using a
gentle rocking motion. The data cable has a white or
purple tab on it. You may pull the tab to remove the cable
(see Figure 4-2).
