I. Disconnecting the Power 1. Turn off the computer using the Power button (see Figure 1-2). Figure 1-2 2. Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet 1 and computer 2 (see Figure 1-3). Failure to disconnect the power from the computer may result in personal injury.

II. Opening the Side Access Panel 1. Remove the screw 1 securing the side access panel. Locate the latch 2 directly below the screw, press down, and hold in the down position (see Figure 2-1). You do not have to replace the screw securing the side access panel.

III. Locating the Microprocessor/Heatsink Assembly See the illustration below for the location of the heatsink 1, Microprocessor 2, microprocessor interface 3, and heatsink power supply cable 4 (see Figure 3-1). Look at the replacement part carefully to help identify and locate the component to be replaced.

IV. Removing the Microprocessor/Heatsink Assembly To remove the Microprocessor/heatsink assembly, complete the following procedure: 1. Turn the computer on its side (open side facing up) and locate the microprocessor/heatsink assembly (see Figure 4-1). 2. Disconnect the heatsink power supply cable (see Figure 4-1).

3. Disconnect the clip holding the heatsink and microprocessor in place by pushing down 1 on the tab and pushing outward 2 on the bottom portion of the tab to release (see Figure 4-2). Figure 4-2 EPLACING A ICROPROCESSOR...

4. Lift the lever holding the microprocessor to the microprocessor interface until you hear and feel a slight click (see Figure 4-3). THIS STEP MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE REMOVING THE MICROPROCESSOR AND HEATSINK. Figure 4-3 5. Lift the microprocessor/heatsink assembly from the microprocessor interface (see Figure 4-4).

V. Replacing the Microprocessor/Heatsink Assembly To replace the microprocessor/heatsink assembly, complete the following procedure: Note: Save all the packing materials received with your replacement part. You will need them to return the defective part. 1. Align the Microprocessor pins 1 with the microprocessor interface 2 on the system board (see Figure 5-1).

VI. Replacing the Side Access Panel Align the tabs on the top and bottom of the side access panel with the slots (located on the top and bottom edge) of the chassis and slide the side access panel into place (see Figure 6-1).
