    I. Disconnecting the Power 1. Turn off the computer using the Power button (see Figure 1-2). Figure 1-2 2. Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet 1 and computer 2 (see Figure 1-3). Failure to disconnect the power from the computer may result in personal injury.
  • Page 6 II. Opening the Side Access Panel 1. Remove the screw 1 securing the side access panel. Locate the latch 2 directly below the screw, press down, and hold in the down position (see Figure 2-1). Figure 2-1 Important: Some models may not have a screw .
  • Page 7 III. Locating the Hard Drive The hard drive is located inside the chassis wall at the front of the computer (see Figure 3-1). Turn the computer on its side with the open side facing up in order to locate it easily. Note: Your hard drive has icons and markings inside the chassis to make identifying parts easy.

    IV. Removing the Hard Drive To remove the hard drive, complete the following procedure. 1. Remove the screw securing the hard drive bracket to the chassis base and save it for your replacement hard drive (see Figure 4-1). Note: It is recommended that you save the screws removed when replacing your defective part.

  • Page 10 3. Remove the screw securing the hard drive to the hard drive bracket and save it for your replacement hard drive (see Figure 4-3). Note: It is recommended that you save the screws removed when replacing your defective part. You will need them when installing your replacement part.

  • Page 12 5. Disconnect the hard drive data cable (with blue pull tab) 1 and power 2 cable using a gentle rocking motion (see Figure 4-5).     V. Replacing the Hard Drive To replace the hard drive, complete the following procedure. Note: It is recommended that you save all packing materials received with your replacement hard drive. You will need them to return the defective part. Caution: Dropping the hard drive may cause damage to the hard drive and/or loss of data.
