Carrying Mobile Services from Small-Cell Base Stations

Because macro base stations provide uneven and inflexible coverage, small-cell base stations
featuring small sizes, light weights, and adaptation to any installation environments are used
together with macro base stations on mobile networks.
However, installation and deployment of small-cell base stations and their bearer equipment on
live networks encounter many difficulties because of their large quantity, wide distribution and
various installation environments. In addition, site selection, maintenance, and power supply
also encounter many difficulties.
In the Huawei mobile bearer solution, ATN 905 functions as bearer equipment for small-cell
base stations and benefits:

bearer NEs for small-cell base stations, ATN 905s using a link topology are connected to access
NEs at the macro base station side and are extension of the ATN+CX IPRAN solution (IPRAN
is the abbreviated form of IP radio access network). This scheme enables E2E clocks and E2E
maintenance for the macro base station bearer solution. It is cost-effective, easy to deploy, and
easy to maintain.

Anywhere: ATN 905 is available in the indoor and outdoor types and can be installed in
various environments where small-cell base stations are installed.
Plug-and-play: Plug-and-play enables NEs to automatically go online and implements
service provisioning in batches and remote commissioning in a centralized manner, thereby
improving the maintenance efficiency and reducing costs.
Power over Ethernet (PoE): ATN 905 can supply power to small-cell base stations and
radio equipment over Ethernet electrical ports, requiring less space and contributing to
environmental protection.
