Which devices the Upgrade Tool can upgrade
Before you upgrade an ESS, LSP, or gateway, administer and register the ESS, LSP or media
gateway with the primary controller. To check if a device is registered, use the Query Versions
option on the Upgrade Tool navigation pane on the left side of the Upgrade Tool screens. The
Query Versions screen shows an IP address next to each registered ESS, LSP, and gateway.
The Upgrade Tool upgrades the components of a configuration in the following order:
All LSPs that you specify

All ESSs that you specify
●
The media gateways and the media modules
●
The primary controller
●
SAMP card boot timeout if upgrading with remastering
program

CAUTION:
If you follow the upgrade procedures in this document, the SAMP card boot
CAUTION:
timeout in the S8500B does not usually timeout during an upgrade. As a result,
you do not have to disable the SAMP boot timeout prior to an upgrade.
However, if you do not follow the upgrade procedures in this document, but instead,
upgrade the software using a telnet session and the remastering program, you must
disable the SAMP boot timeout first. See
