  • Page 3 HP ProCurve Switch 4000M/8000M Replacement Fan Tray The HP ProCurve 4000M and 8000M switches have a replaceable fan tray. The instruc- tions in this booklet will guide you through the process of replacing the fan tray in your switch. Before proceeding, make sure you read the Fan Tray Installation Precautions below.

    Installing the Replacement Fan Tray Overview The installation steps are: 1. Disconnect all AC power from the switch and remove any power supplies and cover plates. 2. On the front of the switch, mark or otherwise note the location of the network cables attached to the network modules in switch slots A and B so that you can reconnect the cables to the correct ports at the end of this procedure.
  • Page 5 Fan Tray Installation Steps Follow these steps to install the replacement fan tray into the back of the Switch 4000M or 8000M: 1. Disconnect AC power and remove power supplies and back cover plates. On the back of the switch, dis- connect all AC power.

  • Page 7 5. Install the Replacement Fan Tray. Follow these steps: a. Insert the new fan tray into the back of the switch so that it matches the position of the old tray. (The tabs that stick out from the sides of the switch chassis fit into the slots in the corners of the fan tray, as shown in the illustration.) Tabs on the switch fit into the slots in each corner...
  • Page 8 b. Install and tighten the two screws that hold the fan tray in place. (Make sure you do not overtighten the screws.). Tighten the two screws just until they are snug. Caution: Make sure you do not leave any loose screws or other foreign material inside the chassis.
  • Page 9 6. Reinstall the Management module into its slot and the network modules into their previous positions in slots A and B. (Make sure you do not overtighten the screws on the modules.) 7. Reinstall the network cables. If you disconnected the network cables in step 2, reconnect the cables to the correct ports on the network modules.
  • Page 10 10. Verify that the switch is operating correctly by observing the LEDs on the front of the switch, as shown in the illustration below.
