Chapter 6. Maintaining the 87691VX Tape Autoloader

This chapter describes autoloader maintenance tasks that you can perform on-site
without the aid of a service technician. It also describes troubleshooting procedures
to help you solve autoloader problems without service assistance.

Using the repair identification (RID) tag

An RID tag maintains the original serial number record of your 87691VX Tape
Autoloader and is used by IBM to entitle the device to future warranty service. If
the autoloader is replaced, you must retain the serial number of the original device
to use the warranty.
To retain the serial number, complete the following steps:
1. Locate the RID tag that is included in the autoloader CRU package.
2. Read the instructions for the RID tag.
