Note: You can enter a password of up to six characters, including blanks.
The password is not case-sensitive.
__ 8. Press the Select button to accept the password (or press the Up a Level
button to cancel setting the password).
__ 9. Press the Up a Level button until the Home screen is displayed. Press the
Up a Level button again or wait 2 minutes without pressing any buttons for
the password to take effect.
Note: If you want to continue using menus after you have set a password, do not
press the Up a Level button an additional time after the Home screen is
displayed. The password will not take effect until you have pressed the Up
a Level button an additional time at the Home screen or you have pressed
no buttons for 2 minutes.
Accessing password-protected operator panel menus
If you want to have access to the operator menus when the password protection is
in effect, complete the following steps:
__ 1. On the operator panel, press the Select, Next Choice, Previous Choice, or
Down a Level button. The password entry screen is displayed.
__ 2. Enter the password. Press the Next Choice or Previous Choice button to
scroll through the available characters for each position. Press the Down a
Level or Up a Level button to change character positions. When you have
entered the password, press the Select button. You can now access the
menus.
__ 3. After you have finished using the menus, press the Up a Level button until
the Home screen is displayed. Then, press the Up a Level button again or
wait 2 minutes without pressing any buttons for password protection to be
reactivated.
Note: You can try to enter the password 5 times. On the sixth attempt, the
autoloader displays an encrypted version of the password. Contact IBM
service to have the password decrypted.
Turning off the operator panel password
To turn off password protection for the operator panel, complete the following
steps:
__ 1. On the operator panel, press the Select, Next, Previous, or Down a Level
button. The password entry screen is displayed.
__ 2. Enter the password. Press the Next Choice or Previous Choice button to
scroll through the available characters for each position. Press the Down a
Level or Up a Level button to change character positions. When you have
entered the password, press the Select button. You can now access the
menus.
__ 3. Press the Next Choice button to scroll through the menus until the Change
a Configuration screen is displayed.
__ 4. Press the Down a Level button once.
__ 5. Press the Next Choice button until the Change Password Entry? screen is
displayed.
__ 6. Press the Select button. The Select Password Protection screen is
displayed.
__ 7. Press the Next Choice button until OFF is displayed.
__ 8. Press the Select button. The message Set Password Protection Off? is
displayed.
