TROUBLESHOOTING

INSPECTION AND REPAIR SAFETY
For your personal safety, do not attempt inspection or repairs not fully described
in this owner's manual. Contact an authorized dealer or another qualified person
for service if you cannot determine the cause of a problem or if the inspection /
repair exceeds your mechanical ability or tool resources. Do not perform any
inspection or repair with the engine running.
ENGINE CRANKS BUT WILL NOT START
POSSIBLE CAUSE
Low Fuel
Fuel pump inoperative
Battery Discharged
Spark Plug(s) Fouled
Spark Plug Wire(s) Disconnected or Loose
STARTER MOTOR DOES NOT TURN OR TURNS
SLOWLY
POSSIBLE CAUSE
Battery Discharged
Battery Cables Loose or Corroded
Transmission In Gear
TROUBLESHOOTING
POSSIBLE REMEDY/ACTION
Verify fuel level
Press the engine start/stop button. The fuel
pump should run momentarily and then
stop. If you do not hear the fuel pump run,
check the fuel pump / ignition circuit
breaker. See the Fuse Replacement
section for details.
Fully charge the battery. See the Battery
Charging section for details.
Inspect spark plugs. See the Spark Plug
Recommendations section for details.
Be sure spark plug wires are securely
fastened.
POSSIBLE REMEDY/ACTION
Fully charge the battery. See the Battery
Charging section for details.
Inspect battery cables.
Disengage the clutch. See the Starting the
Engine section for details.
