Figure 11 Hardware structure of the CC–CO
The function of the CC–CO is to allow bidirectional data communication between two
protection devices via a single wire pair with a maximal transmission rate of 38.4 kBd
(standard) and to adapt the existing fibre optic data protection interface in the protection
device to the physical specification of one copper wire pair. The copper wire pair may be part
of a telecommunications cable, or of any other suitable symmetrical communications cable.
The adaptation is done completely bit-transparent, i.e. the information is transferred directly
without adding or filtering out information. Fig. 11 illustrates the schematic diagram. The line
connection has an isolation resistance of 5 kV. By connecting an isolating transformer it can
be increased to 20 kV (see Accessories page 56).
In order to build up a communication path, two devices are required, the CC–CO master and
the CC–CO slave, which are configured respectively by jumper settings inside the device. A
jumper serves for switching to either master or slave mode. One device must be configured
as master and one as slave.
