3.4 Chassis Components

This section provides instructions on installing and replacing system components. To assure
compatibility, only use components that match the specifications or part numbers given.

Storage Drives

The system supports internal storage drives in several configurations (depicted on the
following page). The number of drives you choose to install may affect the number of
expansion cards possible.
Note: Enterprise level drives are recommended for use in Supermicro chassis and servers.
For information on recommended HDDs, visit the Supermicro website product pages at

Installing 2.5" Drives
1. Power down the server as described in Section 3.1 and remove the cover.
2. Install up to four 2.5" drive(s) into the drive bracket(s) and secure them to the bracket
with the screws provided.
3. Place the drive and bracket into the chassis as illustrated in Figure 3-3. or Figure 3-5.
4. Secure the drive bracket(s) to the chassis floor by inserting the screws up through the
underside of the chassis.
5. Connect the drive cables, reinstall the chassis cover and power cord, then power up the
server.
Note: Double bracket part number MCP-220-000440N
Installing 3.5" Drives
1. Power down the server as described in Section 3.1 and remove the cover.
2. Place the drives onto the chassis floor as illustrated in Figure 3-4 or Figure 3-6.
3. Secure the drives to the chassis floor by inserting the screws up through the underside
of the chassis.
4. Connect the drive cables, reinstall the chassis cover and power cord, then power up the
server.
