The paddle knob on the control panel is a poten-
tiometer made with resistive carbon material. After
frequent use, the carbon material begins rubbing off
the potentiometer. This results in a fine dust that can
cause the potentiometer to not perform smoothly or
linearly. This problem can be detected by performing
the potentiometer test, as described in the game's
self-test procedure. (See Chapter 1 for details on the
self-test procedure.)
If it does become necessary to replace this con-
trol, follow the procedure outlined in Figure 4-14.
