Commercial Condensing Gas-Fired Water Boiler — Boiler Manual
Install condensate components
Install the condensate trap
1. Insert the ¾" PVC elbow through the inlet connection ferrule nut.
2. Slide the condensate trap inlet gasket up onto the ¾" PVC elbow.
3. Ensure condensate trap fl oat is in place.
4. Tighten the inlet connection ferrule nut onto the condensate trap.
Ensure connection is fully tightened.
5. Slide the 1" Fernco fi tt ing onto the ¾" PVC elbow. Tighten the hose
clamp with a 5/16" nut driver or fl at head screwdriver.
6. Ensure bott om condensate trap connection is fully tightened.
7. Slide the condensate trap onto the heat exchanger condensate
drain. Tighten the hose clamp with a 5/16" nut driver or fl at blade
screwdriver.
8. Secure the condensate trap bracket to the boiler base.
9. Secure the condensate trap to the condensate trap bracket using
the U-bolt.
Th e condensate trap fl oat MUST be in place in the con-
densate trap assembly to prevent possible fl ue gas leakage
through the condensate drain system.
Connect condensate line
1. Use 3/4" PVC or CPVC pipe to route condensate to a drain or
condensate pump.
Use materials approved by the authority having jurisdic-
tion. In the absence of other authority, PVC and CPVC
pipe must comply with ASTM D1785, F441 or D2665.
Cement and primer must comply with ASTM D2564
or F493. For Canada, use CSA or ULC certifi ed PVC or
CPVC pipe, fi tt ings and cement.
2. If installing a condensate pump, select one approved for use with
condensing boilers and furnaces. Th e pump should have an over-
fl ow switch to prevent property damage from condensate spill-
age. See Figure 43 for required fl ow capacity. Provide an external
power source for the condensate pump.
3. When sizing condensate pumps, make sure to include the total load
TM
of all SVF
boilers connected.
Th e condensate line must remain unobstructed, allowing
free fl ow of condensate. If condensate is allowed to freeze
in the line or if the line is obstructed in any other manor,
condensate can back up into the boiler, eventually leading
to boiler lockout.
Condensate from the boiler will be slightly acidic (typi-
cally with a pH from 3.2 to 4.5). Install a neutralizing
fi lter if required by local codes. See Replacement parts
section at the end of this manual for a Weil-McLain
condensate neutralizer kit.
