2. Typical Applications for the PDS-220Fx

2.1. RS-232/485/422 Device Networking

The PDS-220Fx series is designed to allow RS-232/485/422 devices to be connected to
a fiber optic network. The VxComm utility allows the built-in PDS-220Fx COM port to be
virtualized to a standard COM port on a host PC, as shown below:
In the configuration above, Meter-1 is virtualized to link to COM3 on the host PC.
Therefore a program originally designed for the MS-COMM standard can still access the
meter without the need for any modification to the program.
