522 Wheels and tyres
Slide the wheel to be mounted onto the cen‐
#
tring pin and push it on.
& WARNING Risk of injury from tightening
wheel bolts and nuts
If you tighten the wheel bolts or wheel nuts
when the vehicle is raised, the jack could tip.
Only tighten wheel bolts or wheel nuts
#
when the vehicle is on the ground.
Be sure to observe the instructions and
#
safety notes on "Changing a wheel"
(
page 513).
For safety reasons, only use wheel bolts
#
which have been approved by Mercedes-
Benz and for the wheel in question.
Tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a diagonal
#
pattern in the order indicated until they are
finger-tight.
Unscrew the centring pin.
#
Tighten the last wheel bolt until it is finger-
#
tight.
If the collapsible emergency spare wheel has
#
been fitted, inflate the collapsible emergency
spare wheel (
page 524).
Lower the vehicle (
page 522).

Lowering the vehicle after a wheel change
Requirements:
The new wheel has been fitted (
R
* NOTE Damage to the emergency spare
wheel when lowering the vehicle
Lowering the vehicle without previously
inflating the emergency collapsible spare
wheel can damage its rim.
Inflate the emergency collapsible spare
#
wheel using the tyre inflation compres‐
sor before lowering the vehicle.
Place the ratchet onto the hexagon nut of the
#
jack so that the letters "AB" are visible.
To lower the vehicle: turn the ratchet of the
#
jack anti-clockwise.

Tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a diagonal
#
pattern in the order indicated
Specified tightening torque: 150 Nm.
& WARNING Risk of injury through incor‐
rect tightening torque
The wheels could come loose if the wheel
bolts or wheel nuts are not tightened to the
prescribed tightening torque.
Make sure the wheel bolts or wheel
#
nuts are tightened to the prescribed
tightening torque.
If you are not sure, do not move the
#
vehicle. Consult a qualified specialist
(1
to 5).
