Safety note
WARNING
Unsupervised children or pets in the vehicle
can set the vehicle in motion and endanger
themselves or other road users, for example by
the following actions:
▷ Pressing the start/stop button.
▷ Release the parking brake.
▷ Opening and closing doors or windows.
▷ Engaging selector lever position N.
▷ Operating vehicle equipment.
There is a risk of accidents or injury. Do not
leave children or pets unsupervised in the vehi‐
cle. When leaving the vehicle, take the remote
control with you and lock the vehicle.
Searching for and downloading
an upgrade
General
There are various ways of searching for and
downloading an upgrade:
▷ Automatically.
▷ Via iDrive.
▷ Via BMW Connected app.
Automatic
The data for the Remote Software Upgrade is
automatically downloaded to the vehicle when
available.

Installing an upgrade
General
If the upgrade has downloaded successfully, it
can be installed once the vehicle has been
parked.
Follow the instructions on the Control Display.
Following a successful upgrade, booked services
– for example RTTI – are automatically activated
again while driving.

Follow the instructions on the Control Dis‐
play.
Download the upgrade to your smartphone in
the BMW Connected app when available.
Follow the instructions in the BMW Connec‐
ted app.
Establish a WiFi and Bluetooth connection
between the smartphone and the vehicle.
The upgrade data will transfer from the
smartphone to the vehicle while driving.
Follow the instructions on the Control Dis‐
play.
Adequate charge state of the battery.
The outside temperature is above —
10 ℃/14 ℉.
Vehicle is standing horizontally.
Hazard warning lights switched off.
Transmission position P is engaged.
Park the vehicle in a safe place off the public
roads.
Make sure there is mobile phone reception
so that an error message can be sent if the
installation is cancelled, for example.
