member that a light contact on inner side of
pilot pin is permissible but pin must not bind
in pilot hole.
If
a slight adjustment of hinge
inward or outward does not provide proper
pilot pin alignment, or results in undesirable
spacing between hood and fenders along the
sides, it will be necessary to adjust the width of
hood as described below.

12. On Series 40 only, adjustment of hood
width is provided by an elongated hole in each
hood pilot plate and an oversize hole in rein-
forcement brace for the bolts which attach the
tubular hood reinforcement and brace to pilot
plate. See figure 12-10. To adjust hood width

Reinforcement to Make Hood Narrower-Series 50-70
spacing along sides of hood is found to be neces-
sary, however, it may be accomplished by bend-
ing the hood panel reinforcement. The hood
may be made wider by straightening the rein-
forcement with a C-clamp prepared and ap-
plied as shown in figure 12-11
.

Reinforcement to Spread Hood-Series 50-70
at either end of front or rear reinforcement,
loosen attaching bolts, push in or pull out on
edge of hood as required, then tighten bolts
securely. Do not extend hood beyond the side of
body when making this adjustment.
13. On Series 50-70, the hood reinforcements
are of channel section welded to hood
.

plates which produce hoods of fixed and uni-
form widths; therefore, adjustment for width
is seldom necessary.
If
adjustment of hood
width to secure pilot pin alignment and proper
be reduced in width by bending the reinforce-
ment with a large turnbuckle prepared and
applied as shown in figure
12-12.
Both tools
illustrated may be made locally from details
shown.
14. In exceptional cases, it may be necessary
to move a hinge outward farther than it is
advisable to bend the hinge. This may be ac-
complished by installing spacer washers as
required between the fender rail and the hinge
under the fender. U-shaped spacer washers,
