Plate
should always contact the hinge plate along the
inner edge first. If this condition
does
not exist,
first check
the
hinge
plates
with straight edge
to see if they are flat. See figure
12-5,
view

If
plates
are not flat, straighten them with a
su
itable
punch and hammer while supporting
the plate on a flat steel block. See figure
12-5,
view B.
Check
the pilot plates on hood panel re-
inforcements and straighten them with a pry
bar or hammer if they are distorted. Bend pilot
plate
down a trifle along inner edge of
open-
ing as
shown
in figure 12-6 to obtain contact
along in
ner
edge, if
necessary.
Make
sure that
ben
t
down edge is
straight
and not curved
(fore
and
aft) to insure full contact with hinge
plate.
4. If hinge and pilot
plates
are not in proper
contact, first chec k hood fastener rod clips to
make sure
they
are
tight.
See figure 12-4.

external tooth lockwashers
over
bolts between
hood Tail and clips

The clip
bolt
holes are large

to
permit some
increase
in
fastener ro

locking

ension by loosening bolts and shifting
clips up as far as

then securely t
ight-
ening bolts. In some cases it may be necessary
to bend a hook on hi
nge
up or down to secure
equal contact of both hooks with the loop of
fastener
rod.
