Best Practices

Installation sequence

Enphase considers following sequence of steps to be a best practice that reduces installation delays.
1. Register the System
2. Connect the Envoy Communications Gateway
3. Position the Enphase Engage Cable
4. Attach the Microinverters to the PV Racking
5. Dress the Cable
6. Connect the Microinverters
7. Terminate the Unused End of the Cable
8. Connect the Cable to the AC Junction Box
9. Complete the Installation Map
10. Connect the PV Modules
11. Energize the System
12. Use the Envoy to Complete System Setup
13. Build Array in Enlighten

Care of the solar array

How do I clean the solar array?

Visually inspect the array to check for dust, debris, leaves, and other soiling. If cleaning is needed, follow
the module manufacturer's instructions for cleaning or contact a local professional to schedule a cleaning.

How do I maintain the solar array?

Installers may want to conduct an annual check of the integrity of mechanical and electrical connections.
An electrician can verify that the electrical connections are intact and working efficiently.
Many installers suggest that homeowners visually inspect the modules (panels), especially after storms
and in areas prone to hail and high winds. An inspection from the ground (use binoculars, if needed) is
usually sufficient.
At the array, get voltage readings from individual modules to confirm maximum performance and check
for problems not visible from the ground. For example, inspect the seals around the individual module
frames.
Installers can also check mechanical connections, perform a re-torque of all electrical connections,
confirm proper voltage and performance, and log cumulative data from the microinverters to keep and
compare performance records for the system.

Will a grid-tied solar array provide power during a power outage?

Grid-tied arrays cannot provide electrical power during electrical power outages. Safety requirements
dictate that grid-tied microinverters stop exporting power in the event of grid power loss.
