When th€ brake linins b€comes
worn th€ etrective brake
pedal
t.avel is reduced. The etrective
travet may be restored by adjust-
ing the brake shoes.
First mak€ sure that there is
'
(12.7 mm.) pedal trav€I, without
moving the maste. cylinder piston,
which is necessary to prevent the
bmkes f.om draggins due to ex-
prnsion of the hydiaulic liquid.
Jack up the wheels to clear the
floor. Adjustment is made by ro-
tating the brake shoe eccentrics,
Iigure 31. Loosen the lock nut for
the forward
brake shoe and hold
the nut while turning the eccentric
toward the front of the vehicle,
with another wrench, until the shoe
stikes the d.um. Turn the wheel
with
one hand and
release the
eccentric until the wheel turDs
freely then hold the eccentric and
tiehten the lock nut. To adjust the
shoe, repeat this
ope.atioD except turn the eccentric
toward the rear of the vehicle. Do
ADJUSTMENT
this on all brakes and check the
fluid lev€l in the master cylinder

To adjust the hand b.ake, fisure
12, the sequence below should be
followed: Make sure that the brake
handle otr the instrument
panel is
fully leleased. Give due attentiotr
to the cable and opening linkage to
see that they do not bind. Should
cable fail to slide freely in conduit,
remove and lubricate it. Rotat€
the blak€ drum until
one pair of
the three s€ts of holes arc opposite
the two adjusting screw wheels in
thc brake. Use the edse of the holes
as a fuloum for a suitable adjust'
ing tool o. a screw driver, rotate
each notched adjustine screw by
moving
the
handle of the tool
away from th€ center of the drive
shaft until the shoes are snug in
the drum. Back otr s€ver notches
