recycling system.
Dispose of batteries in an
environmentally responsible
manner. Take discharged
batteries to a qualified spe-
cialist workshop or to a col-
lection point for used batter-
ies.
Observe the following notes:
Recharge the battery more frequently, if you:
R
predominantly drive short distances
-
predominantly drive at low outside temper-
-
atures
leave the vehicle parked for a lengthy
-
period
In order for the batteries to achieve their max-
imum possible service life, they must always
be sufficiently charged.
Consult a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre if
R
you wish to leave your vehicle parked up for a
long period of time.
When you park the vehicle, remove the key if
R
you do not require any electrical consumers.
The vehicle will then use very little energy,
thus conserving battery power.
If your vehicle requires jump-starting, or if you
R
wish to provide jump-starting assistance to
another vehicle, only use the jump-starting
connection point in the engine compartment
Y
(
page 358).
For safety reasons, only replace a battery with
R
a battery that has been recommended by
Mercedes-Benz.
These batteries have been tested and
approved for your vehicle. They provide
increased impact protection to prevent vehi-
cle occupants from suffering acid burns
should the battery be damaged in the event of
an accident.
Have the battery removed at a qualified spe-
R
cialist workshop.
Installation locations
Your vehicle may be equipped with two batteries
located in the seat base of the right-hand front
seat, depending on the equipment version:

G
WARNING
During the charging process, a battery produ-
ces hydrogen gas. If a short circuit occurs or
sparks are created, the hydrogen gas can
ignite. There is a risk of an explosion.
Make sure that the positive terminal of a
R
connected battery does not come into con-
tact with vehicle parts.
Never place metal objects or tools on a bat-
R
tery.
It is important that you observe the descri-
R
bed order of the battery terminals when
connecting and disconnecting a battery.
When jump-starting, make sure that the
R
battery poles with identical polarity are
connected.
It is particularly important to observe the
R
described order when connecting and dis-
connecting the jump leads.
Never connect or disconnect the battery
R
terminals while the engine is running.
G
WARNING
Battery acid is caustic. There is a risk of injury.
Avoid contact with the skin, eyes or clothing.
Do not breathe in any battery gases. Do not
lean over the battery. Keep the batteries out
of the reach of children. Immediately rinse off
battery acid thoroughly with plenty of clean
water and seek medical attention at once.
!
You should have all work involving the bat-
tery carried out at a qualified specialist work-
shop.
