When you pull the cruise control lever
towards you for the first time after starting the
engine, cruise control adopts the current
speed.
Setting the speed
It may be a moment before the vehicle starts to
accelerate or brake to the set speed. Take this
delay into account when setting the speed.

Briefly push the cruise control lever up : to
increase the speed or down ? to reduce the
speed.
The vehicle will accelerate or decelerate. The
speed is shown in the display.
X
Release the cruise control lever once the
desired speed is reached.
The displayed speed is stored.
or
X
Briefly press the cruise control lever up : or
down ? to the first point of resistance.
The last speed stored is increased/reduced in
increments of 1 km/h.
or
X
Briefly press the cruise control lever up : or
down ? beyond the pressure point.
The last speed stored is increased/reduced in
increments of 10 km/h.

Cruise control is not deactivated if you
depress the accelerator pedal. If you acceler-
ate briefly to overtake, for example, cruise
control adjusts the vehicle's speed to the last
speed stored after you have finished overtak-
ing.
Deactivating cruise control
There are various ways to deactivate cruise con-
trol:

Briefly press the cruise control lever forwards

or
X
Apply the brakes.
or
X
Briefly push the cruise control lever in the
direction of arrow A.
Variable SPEEDTRONIC is selected. LIM indi-
cator lamp ; in the cruise control lever lights
up.
The last speed set remains stored. The last
speed stored is cleared when you switch off the
engine.
Cruise control is deactivated automatically
when:
you apply the brakes
R
you apply the parking brake and the !
R
indicator lamp in the instrument cluster lights
up
you are driving slower than 30 km/h
R
you depress the clutch pedal for longer than
R
six seconds while the vehicle is in motion
you shift the manual transmission to neutral
R
while the vehicle is in motion and release the
clutch pedal
on vehicles with manual transmission, you
R
shift to a higher gear and as a result the
engine speed is too low
you shift the automatic transmission to neu-
R
tral position N while the vehicle is in motion

ESP
intervenes or you deactivate ESP
R
there is a malfunction in the ESP
R
tem
If cruise control automatically deactivates, a
warning tone sounds and the
off
message appears briefly in the display.
Problems with cruise control
The speed cannot be set when cruise control is
activated.
The display is showing a message of high priority
and cannot therefore show a change in speed.

Proceed as instructed by the message in the
display.

SPEEDTRONIC helps you to avoid exceeding a
set speed.
You can set a variable or permanent speed lim-
itation:
Variable, for maximum permissible speeds,

e.g. in built-up areas
Permanent, for long-term maximum permis-

sible speeds, e.g. when driving on winter tyres
