DESCALING

The extent to which you will need to descale your machine
depends very much on the water quality in your area and how
often you use your machine. Contact your local authority for
information on the water hardness in your area. For water with
a high mineral content (hard water) and when the machine is
used daily, we recommend descaling every two months, and
approx. every three months in areas with soft to moderately
hard water.
The machine has a warning system for when it is due to be
descaled, which activates an alarm after the 500-coffee mark
is reached.
PLEASE NOTE
Distilled water or finely filtered water is not suitable for prepa-
ring coffee. A good coffee needs a certain amount of calcium.
IMPORTANT
Vinegar, white vinegar, alkaline solutions, salt, formic acid, etc.,
will damage your machine. Do not leave the machine filled with
descaler for prolonged periods.
We recommend the FrancisFrancis! descaler product which is
based on citric acid (www.illy.com).
DESCALING PROCEDURE
When the espresso machine is switched on, it emits an acoustic
signal (two bleeps). At the same time, illuminated dials B and C
12
flash red. These warning signals indicate that the machine needs
to be descaled. The machine still allows you to prepare coffee.
Press the on/off button down for 12 seconds. Three short bleeps
will be emitted. Do not forget to place a suitable container under-
neath the brew group to catch the liquid which streams out.
Release the on/off button.
The red flashing illuminated dial B confirms that the machine
is ready for descaling. Dissolve the descaler powder in the full wa-
ter tank. (The pack contains the quantity required for one litre of
water.) Introduce the water tank into the machine.
Press the on/off button.
The descaling programme will start and takes approx.
18 minutes.
At the end of this phase and when the water tank is completely
empty, dial B flashes green.
Fill up the water tank with fresh water.
Press the on/off button.
The rinsing procedure will start and takes approx. 2 to 3 minutes.
The espresso machine is ready for use.
If descaling is not carried out on a regular basis, this could cause
damage which is not covered by the warranty.
