1 Business Copy Z overview Abstract HP XP7 Business Copy Z, also known as Business Copy Z (or BC Z), uses local mirroring technology to create and maintain a full copy of a data volume within an HP XP7 Storage system.

RWC communicates with the HP XP7 over defined TCP/IP connections. RWC is LAN-attached to HP XP7. For more information about using RWC, see the HP XP7 Remote Web Console User Guide. RAID Manager RAID Manager is a tool that uses the command line interface to run commands that perform most of the same tasks you can do with the RWC.

Auto LUN (using migration plans) Tables and installed shared memory The number of differential and pair tables that are present in the HP XP7 storage system depends on the amount of installed shared memory. Ensure that you have sufficient shared memory to handle the number of BC Z pairs you plan to create.

S-VOLs than P-VOLs, then the number of allowed BC Z pairs decreases. Calculating the number of tables if you are sharing tables You can calculate the number of differential and pair tables your HP XP7 storage system needs to create BC Z pairs.

For example, if you plan to create 10 BC Z pairs of 3390-3 volumes and 20 BC Z pairs of 3390-L volumes in an HP XP7 storage system that has 26,176 differential tables, use the following calculation: (3 x 10) + (24 x 20) = 510, which is ≤ 26,176 If the emulation type is 3390-3, you will need three differential tables and one pair table.

You must have the Storage Administrator (Local Copy) role to perform BC Z pair user tasks.
  • Page 37: Bc Z Pair Creation

BC Z pair creation When you create a pair, the HP XP7 storage system performs an initial copy to copy data in the P-VOL to the S-VOL. You can create the BC Z pair and immediately split the pair so that you can access the S-VOL.
  • Page 38: Prerequisites For Creating Bc Z Pairs

Creating a BC Z pair copies the P-VOL to the S-VOL. If your HP XP7 has encryption DKAs, you can copy an encrypted volume to an unencrypted volume. There is no guard logic to enforce copying encrypted P-VOLs to only encrypted S-VOLs. Unless there is a specific reason for the data to become unencrypted, make sure you maintain the encryption by using only encrypted S-VOLs.
