Electrostatic charging
Anyone who is not connected to the electrical potential of their surroundings can be
electrostatically charged.
The diagram below shows the maximum electrostatic voltage which may build up on a
person coming into contact with the materials specified in the diagram. These values
correspond to IEC 801-2 specifications.
Basic protective measures against electrostatic discharge
● Make sure the grounding is good:
When working with electrostatically sensitive devices, make sure that the person, the
workstation and the packaging are properly grounded. In this way, you can avoid
becoming electrostatically charged.
● Avoid direct contact:
You should only touch ESD components if this is unavoidable (for example, during
maintenance work). Handle the modules without touching any chip pins or PCB traces. In
this way, the discharged energy cannot reach or damage sensitive devices.
Discharge your body before you start taking any measurements on a module. Do so by
touching grounded metallic parts. Use only grounded measuring instruments.
