To install the M.2 backplane, complete the following steps:

Note: Before installing the M.2 backplane, make sure an M.2 drive is installed to every available connector
on the M.2 backplane.
Step 1.
Align the openings located at the bottom of the blue plastic supports at each end of the M.2
backplane with the guide pin on the system board and T-head pins on the hard drive cage; then,
insert the backplane in the system board connector. Press down on the M.2 backplane to fully seat
it.

After installing the M.2 backplane, complete the following steps:
1. Reinstall the PCIe riser card if necessary (see "Install the PCIe riser card assembly" on page 99).
2. Reinstall the LOM adapter if necessary (see "Install the LOM adapter" on page 81).
3. Install the PCIe expansion tray (see "Install the PCIe expansion tray" on page 151).
4. Install the top cover (see "Install the top cover" on page 148).
5. Reconnect the power cords and any cables that you removed.
