Scan Charge Plan

While the DADF of the imageRUNNER ADVANCE device is not intended for
use as a high volume document scanner, some customers may choose to
use the scanner to convert large volumes of data into digital format. This may
result in an increase to the cost of parts and labor to service the scanning
components of the imageRUNNER ADVANCE device. To compensate Canon
USA has developed a Scan Charge Plan with sample pricing for scanning.
An indicator that a scan charge plan is required is if there is a high Scan
Ratio, the number of scans as compared to one print or copy. The Scan ratio
is calculated as: Counter 501 (total scans)/Counter 101 (total print/copies).
Counter 501 is a total counter that increments when one page is scanned.
This includes copies, scans, send scans, fax scans, scan to box, and scan to
USB.
The Soft Counter of the device can be configured to display the Counter
501 when the counter check key button on the control panel is pressed.
Refer to the Service Manual for complete details on the Soft Counter
configurations.
imageWARE Remote is available to remotely capture both the Counter
101 and Counter 501. This requires a billing system to interface with
imageWARE Remote at the dealership site.
Scan Charge Plan is not required if the following conditions exist:
The Scan Ratio is less than 100%. This indicates that the number of
prints and copies exceed the number of scanned pages. In this case, the
costs associated with copy scans are offset by the revenue secured from
the standard copy click charge.
Scan service is provided by a print shop. Since Counter 501 captures the
meters for both copy scans and scans without paper output, a scan only
count cannot be captured and used separately.
The machine is in a low print volume environment. A Scan Charge Plan is
not designed to compensate for revenue reductions that may occur in low
copy/print volume environments.
