If the Repeater is used to obtain coverage in areas of low traffic, i.e. areas with few
employees with DECT handsets, the Repeater can be used as shown in Figure 1.9.
Another possibility is to install two Repeaters in the outer areas, giving an even dis-
tribution of traffic capacity. However, such a solution may be more expensive than
establishing coverage with real Base Stations as the traffic capacity increased.
The Repeater can only be used to a limited extent as a substitute for a real Base Sta-
tion since the Repeater does not increase the traffic capacity. Therefore, the correct
procedure to installing a DECT system is to establish coverage of the primary areas
with real Base Stations and use Repeaters in areas where the radio coverage is
wanted, but where the traffic intensity is low.
Areas with Low Traffic Intensity
The Repeater can be used to establish coverage in areas with low traffic intensity.
This could be a passageway between DECT areas or coverage outdoors (Figure
1.10).
