2.4.3 Memory configurations

Physically, memory is organized in the following manner:
Within a drawer, all slots must be populated with the same size DIMM.
Each CPC drawer in a two drawer Model N20 can contain different amounts of memory.
A CPC drawer can have available unused memory, which can be ordered as a memory
upgrade and enabled by LIC without DIMM changes. The amount of memory that can be
enabled by the client is the total physical installed memory minus the RAIM amount and
minus the 40 GB of HSA memory.
The memory controller on the adjacent PU chip manages the five memory slots.
DIMM changes require a disruptive IML on z13s.
Model N10 memory configurations
The memory in Model N10 can be configured in the following manner:
Ten DIMM slots per N10 drawer supported by two memory controllers on PU chips with
five slots each.
Any remaining unpopulated DIMM banks, MD06-MD10 and MD11-MD15, must be
plugged with memory DIMM airflows
Drawer memory configuration based on DIMM sizes of 16, 32, 64, 128 supporting up to
984 GB customer available memory in the drawer.
HSA size (40 GB) is fixed and is not taken from customer purchased memory.
Figure 2-19 shows the physical view of the N10 CPC drawer memory DIMM plug locations.
