BASIC OPERATION

■ Adjusting the squelch level

To adjust the IC-M90E's squelch level, use the [Y]/[Z] keys as
descrbed below. In order to receve sgnals properly, as well
as for the scan to functon effectvely, the squelch must be ad-
justed to the proper level.
q Push [SQL• ], then adjust the squelch level wth [Y]/[Z].
MONI
- "SQL" ndcator starts blnkng.
- There are 11 squelch levels to choose from: OP s completely
open; 10 s tght squelch; 1 s loose squelch level.
w Push [SQL• ] agan to return to normal condton.
MONI
- When no swtch s pushed for 5 sec., the transcever returns to
normal condton.

■ Backlighting function
Ths functon s convenent for nghttme operaton. The back-
lghtng brghtness can be adjusted n the SET mode. (p. 18)
➥ Push any key except [PTT] to turn the backlghtng ON.
• The backlghtng s automatcally turned OFF after 5 sec. of
nactvty.

■ Voice scrambler operation

D Activating the scrambler
The voce scrambler provdes prvate communcatons. In
order to receve or send scrambled transmssons, you must
actvate the scrambler functon first.

D Programming scramble codes
32 scrambler codes (1 to 32) are avalable for voce scrambler
operaton. Set the code n the SET mode. In order to under-
stand each other, all transcevers n your group must have the
same scrambler code. See p. 20 for "Scrambler code" settng
detals.
