Stabilising bar

Stabilising bar (Fig.4.52).
The stabilising bar gives the
backrest its stability. To be able
to fold the chair, you must turn
the knobs (1) on the end of the
push handle and remove the
stabilising bar, then you can
fold the wheelchair easily. To
replace the stabilising bar, you
must retighten the knobs, so
that it is locked in place.

WARNING!
Transit wheels must only be used on a temporary basis
and must not permanently replace the Rear wheels.
1. Removing the transit wheels from the clamps.
a. Pull out the release screw (D).
b. Remove the transit wheel (E) from the clamp (F).
c. Repeat this procedure on the other side.
2. Fitting the transit wheels into the clamps.
a. Slot the transit wheel (E) into the clamp (F).
b. Align the holes into position for the appropriate rear
wheel size.
c. Replace the release screw (D).
d. Repeat this procedure on the other side. Both transit
wheels must be set at the same height.
3. Adjusting the transit wheels to the frame angle. The
alignment of the transit mounting must be adjusted as
required to suit the angle of the frame rails. The castor
mountings come with two hole patterns which offer 4
positions.
4. Adjusting the fitting configuration:
a. Remove the fitting screw (D).
b. Turn the transit mounting on to the hole pattern which
gives the smallest position. The castor must always be
located behind the mid line of the axle.
c. Insert the fitting screw (D) and tighten to 12 Nm.
d. Repeat this procedure on the other side. Both transit
wheels must be set at the same angle.

5.0 Tyres and Mounting

Tyres and Mounting
Always make sure that you maintain the correct tyre
pressure, as this can have an effect on wheelchair
performance. If the tyre pressure is too low, rolling
resistance will increase, requiring more effort to move
the chair for ward. Low tyre pressure also has a negative
impact on manoenvrability. If the tyre pressure is too
high, the tyre could burst.
The correct pressure for a given tyre is printed on the
surface of the tyre itself.
Tyres can be mounted the same way as an ordinary
bicycle tyre. Before installing a new inner tube, you
should always make sure that the base of the rim and the
interior of the tyre are free of foreign ob jects. Check the
pressure after mounting or re pairing a tyre. It is critical
to your safety and to the wheelchair's performance that
regulation air pressure be maintained and that tyres be in
good condition.

6.0 Trouble Shooting

Wheelchair pulls to one side:
• Check tyre pressure
• Check to make sure that the wheel turns easily
(bearings, axle)
• Check to make sure both castors are making proper
contact with the ground.
Wheelchair does not fit in the support
• The chair is still new, or the seat or back slings are still
stiff, this will ease through frequent use
Wheelchair is difficult to fold up
• Adjustable backrest sling is too stiff, loosen slightly.
Wheelchair squeaks and rattles
• Check to make sure all bolts are secure; tighten if
necessary (see the page on torque)
• Apply small amount of oil to moving parts.
Wheelchair wobbles:
• Check angles of castors
• Check tyre pressure
• Check whether the rear wheels have been adjusted
differently
