Introduction The DTI (Digital Temperature Indicator) system is designed for fast and traceable calibration and is ready for use. The system is portable. Please read this manual carefully before use, to obtain maximum value of your DTI system. The DTI is prepared for re-calibration by your local calibration laboratories, and all necessary instructions for the re-calibration is stated in this manual.
Ö The power supply is made by eight 1.5 Volt batteries or a mains adapter (optional extra). Use only mains adapter supplied by AMETEK in order to comply with the requirements in EN50081-1 (1992) and EN50082-1 (1992). It is possible to connect the shields from the cables to the cabinet, in order to reduce the influence of noise.
3.2 Indicators The DTI only uses the display for all indications. The display has 2*20 characters which will swap between read-out values or menu selection when requested. Please see section 5.3.1 to 5.3.6 for possible display read-outs. Please note that the error messages will also be showed in the display, see section 7.3.
Connections All signal cables have to be connected to the top plate (grounding on the back plate). Power and communication cables have to be connected on the back plate. Top plate connection Back plate connections Connections for sensors, where channel 1 is shown. Please note that the LEMO-connector is only available on the DTI- 1000 model.

Operation Operating area Both of the DTI models are intended for use in areas which meet the following: Temperature range 0°C/32°F to 50°C/122°F Humidity 0% to 90% Protection class IP20 WARNING: Do not use in hazardous areas! 5.2.1 Connection of sensors The sensor should be connected to the terminals as shown in the figure below: Use the ground terminal (see the figure "Overview"...
The batteries are placed in the two battery holders shown in the figure below: It is also possible to supply the DTI from a mains adapter at the connector shown in the figure above. The mains adapter can be supplied by AMETEK. 100975...
Test 3 is an internal voltage reference check, which approximately takes 4 seconds. When all the test have succeeded, the DTI will show the model type and last calibration date in the display: AMETEK DTI-1000 CAL. DATE 940630 After this the input values will be shown in the display in the same format, as before the DTI was shut off last time: °C...
5.3.2 Reading In order to change the reading, you must press the softkey <MENU/Enter> 1 time. The following message will be shown in the display: MODE: Use the softkey <Reset/SELECT> to scroll between following types of read-out: MODE SELECTION MENU READ-OUT MODE 23.65 °C MODE:...
5.3.4 Units In order to change the unit of the read-out, you must press the softkey <MENU/Enter> 2 times. The following message will be shown in the display: °C UNIT: Use the softkey <Reset/SELECT> to scroll between following types of units: UNIT SELECTION MENU READ-OUT MODE °C...

The sample period is dependent on the selected resolution which can be longer than sample rate to the display if a resolution above 0.1 is selected.
5.3.6 Checking sensor coefficients In order to check the sensor ID and coefficients on the DTI, press the softkey <MENU/Enter> 4 times. The following message will be shown in the display: SENSOR 1: 9402244 1.0000000E+02 Use the softkey <Reset/SELECT> to scroll through the coefficients: (example with both sensors using default coefficients) SENSOR 1: 9402244 SENSOR 2: 9402246...
Maintenance and display error messages Maintenance The DTI does not require specific maintenance before or after use. The user may carry out the following procedures him self. Cleaning surfaces Use alcohol or water and a soft cloth. Re-calibrate or change Use the software in order to re-calibrate/change the coefficients for sensors sensor coefficients (see section 8.6).
Display and error messages If the DTI detects an error while running, it will automatically appear in the display. Following error messages can occur: Display message: Meaning/Action: Battery voltage low. Change batteries BATTERY LOW (section 7.2). PRESS ANY KEY No sensor connected to input or measuring input outside range.
The execution file is protected to prevent erasing by a simple DOS command. Connections Before the program is started please connect the DTI to the PC. The RS232C connector on the DTI is shown in figure below. Use only the AMETEK cable (Part. No. 60V991) for connection. 20/32...
Starting the program Type "DTI" and press <ENTER> to start the program. Confirm port selection with <ENTER> or change it by pressing <SPACE> and using <↑> or <↓>. When the program is in contact with the DTI the "ABOUT" message will be shown on the screen.

Measurements The measurements menu consists of single measurement and optional setup, a continuous measurement to a log-file, and an overview menu of previous measurements. Measure Options Datalog Display logdata Measure: The measure menu shows the latest reading in the display in the read-out modes specified in the options menu.
Page 24
Measurements, cont. Datalog: This menu picks up the measurements and stores them in an user specified file (with the extension DLO). WARNING : When using an already existing file name, this file will be subjected to overwriting (destroyed). It is possible to specify the resolution of the data in the logfile which is changed by pressing <SPACE>.

After every download of coefficients to the DTI the user should validate that the accurate data is present in the internal memory of the DTI. This is done by: Pressing <MENU/ENTER> on the DTI until the menu pops up: CH1: ”sensor number” R0 : 1.0000000e+02 Check the sensor number and coefficient A by comparing with the data on the PC.

Calibrate sensors: In the calibrate sensors menu it is possible to calibrate one or both sensors. The logdata is saved in separate files specified by the user before starting (extension CLO). When measuring temperatures over 0°C, it is necessary to calibrate by at least 3 temperatures. When measuring temperatures under 0°C it is necessary to calibrate by at least 3 positive temperatures and 1 negative temperature.
The edit logdata menu is for removal of unwanted logs where the defined softkeys are shown in it's own menu-frame: Logdata : TEST1.CLO Sensor 1 Read True Deviation 0.020 0.020°C 0.000°C -0.020°C 100.000 100.000°C 100.000°C 0.000°C 199.998 199.998°C 200.018°C +0.020°C When the calibration points are measured use <F4>...
Quit, About, Connection and Temperature unit This menu is used for leaving the program, showing info text and re-establishing of lost connection for communication. Quit About Connection Temperature unit Use the Connection menu to re-establish contact to the DTI, if the communication has been aborted while running.
Calibration WARNING: The re-calibration should be performed by authorized personnel only. Read section 9.1 to 9.3 before the re-calibration is started. Recommended equipment Following equipment is necessary for reference recalibration: 50-60 Ω resistor with a traceable accuracy better than ±10 ppm. 350-360 Ω...
Calibration of the reference resistors Use following procedure for recalibration of the internal reference resistors: Select the menu reference resistors. Enter the date format as YYMMDD. Connect the two reference resistors to the sensor inputs as shown on the figure section 5.2.1.
Calibration of analog out (DTI 1000 only) Use following procedure for recalibration of the two analog outputs: Select the menu analog out. Enter the date format as YYMMDD. Connect the voltmeter to channel 1 as shown in the figure section 5.2.2. Read the voltage and enter the measured value for channel 1.
