Upgrading the firmware on the fax control PWB

Firmware upgrading requires the following tools:
Compact Flash (Products manufactured by SANDISK are recommended.)
NOTE
When writing data to a new Compact Flash from a computer, be sure to format it in advance.
Procedure
1. Enter the maintenance mode and run main-
tenance item U680 (Displaying the fax
board ROM version). Check the version of
the ROM on the fax control PWB (see page
1-3-31).
2. Exit the maintenance mode.
3. Press the power key on the operation panel
to off. Make sure that the power indicator
and the memory indicator are off before
turning off the main power switch. And then
unplug the power cable from the wall outlet.
4. Remove two screws and remove the right
upper plate lid.
5. Insert Compact Flash in a notch hole of the
machine.
Insert the surface of Compact Flash toward
the machine rear.
6. Insert the power plug. While pressing the
copy key, turn the main power switch on.
7. Enter the maintenance mode and select
U926 using the cursor up/down keys or
numeric keys. Press the start key.
8. Press the start key to run maintenance item
U926 (Rewriting FAX program). See page 1-
3-37.
Downloading of the fax program and fax
fonts start. Indication of [PRG EXE] will
count up from 0 and end by 100.
9. Press the power key on the operation panel
to off. Make sure that the power indicator
and the memory indicator are off before
turning off the main power switch. And then
unplug the power cable from the wall outlet.
10. Remove Compact Flash from the machine.
11. Refit the right upper plate lid.
12. Insert the power plug and turn the main
power switch on.
13. Enter the maintenance mode and run main-
tenance item U680 (Displaying the fax
board ROM version). Check that the version
of the ROM is going up.
