Vehicle dynamics package with Sport mode
A vehicle dynamics package with Sport mode, code
(483), and speed-sensitive power steering with
more direct steering ratio (13.3 instead of 14.5) are
available as special equipment (standard with
8-cylinder engines).
By operating the "Sport" switch the driver can influ-
ence the vehicle's characteristics and change the
handling from comfortable to sporty.
Advantages
The vehicle dynamics package with Sport mode
provides a significant improvement in ride comfort
in the relevant frequency range with regard to body
behavior and jolting through its continually variable
damping.
Control with the Sport switch
(Comfort/Sport)
In Sport mode the hydraulic forces of the shock
absorbers are optimized to improve vehicle
dynamics.
This provides
• Better control of the vehicle
• Reduced understeer at speeds up to 120 km/h
• Better directional stability and road adhesion at
higher speeds
The characteristic of the accelerator pedal changes
in order to give the driver the feeling of better
engine response.

Function
The electronically controlled damping system oper-
ates fully automatically. The damping is set harder
or softer according to the driving situation.
The electronic system operates steplessly within a
wide damping performance map. The damping
force at each wheel is automatically adjusted inde-
pendently to suit the current requirements, the road
conditions and the driving situation.
