2 Safety Notes

This unit corresponds to all relevant directives of
the EU and is therefore marked with
WARNING This unit uses dangerous mains
voltage. Leave servicing to skilled
personnel only and do not insert
anything into the air vents. Inex-
pert handling may result in electric
shock.
Please observe the following items in any case:
G
The unit is suitable for indoor use only. Protect
it against dripping water and splash water,
high air humidity and heat (admissible ambient
temperature range: 0 – 40 °C).
G
Do not place any vessel filled with liquid on the
unit, e. g. a drinking glass.
G
The heat generated inside the unit must be
dissipated by air circulation; never cover the
air vents of the housing.
6
G
Do not operate the unit or immediately discon-
nect the mains plug from the socket
1. if the unit or the mains cable is visibly dam-
aged,
2. if a defect might have occurred after the unit
was dropped or suffered a similar accident,
3. if malfunctions occur.
In any case the unit must be repaired by skilled
personnel.
G
Never pull the mains cable to disconnect the
mains plug from the socket, always seize the
plug.
G
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth; never
use water or chemicals.
G
No guarantee claims for the unit and no liabil-
ity for any resulting personal damage or mate-
rial damage will be accepted if the unit is used
for other purposes than originally intended, if it
is not correctly connected or operated, or if it is
not repaired in an expert way.
If the unit is to be put out of operation
definitively, take it to a local recycling
plant for a disposal which is not harmful
to the environment.
3 Applications
This digital stereo PA amplifier (class D) is spe-
cially designed for applications on stage and in
discothèques. Model STA-1000D is equipped
with two amplifier channels (2 × 500 W/4 Ω);
model STA-2000D is equipped with four ampli-
fier channels (4 × 500 W/4 Ω) which can be inter-
connected in pairs for the bridge mode to
increase the output power.
To ensure sufficient cooling, the amplifier is
equipped with temperature-controlled and silent
fans. Due to its design as a class D amplifier and
a switch-mode power supply, the amplifier offers
high efficiency, compact size and small weight.
Extensive protective circuits will protect the
amplifier and the speakers connected.
4 Setting Up
The amplifier is designed for installation into a
rack (482 mm / 19"), but it can also be placed on
a table. To ensure sufficient cooling, air must
always be able to flow freely through all air vents.
4.1 Installation into a rack
.
For installation into a rack, the amplifier requires
a height of 2 RS (rack space = 44.45 mm). To
prevent the rack from becoming top-heavy,
insert the amplifier into the lower section of the
rack. The front panel alone is not sufficient for
fixing it safely; additionally use lateral rails or a
bottom plate to secure the unit.
The hot air given off by the amplifier must be
dissipated from the rack; otherwise, heat will
accumulate in the rack which may not only dam-
age the amplifier but also other units in the rack.
In case of insufficient heat dissipation, install a
ventilation unit into the rack.

5 Connecting the Amplifier

Prior to making or changing any connections,
switch off the amplifier and the units to be con-
nected.
1) Feed the input signals for the amplifier to
the XLR jacks (8) or to the RCA jacks (7):
At these jacks, connect, for example, the out-
put of a preamplifer or of a mixer. The bal-
anced XLR jacks should be preferred, espe-
cially with long connection cables, because a
balanced signal transmission will provide the
best interference suppression. The input sig-
nal should have line level.
For the bridge mode: On model STA-
1000D, only connect the jack L or L-CH of the
left channel; on model STA-2000D, only con-
nect the jacks CH 1 and CH 3. The signals at
the other jacks will be ignored in the bridge
mode.
2) Connect the speakers to the SPEAKON
jacks:
Model STA-1000D: For the stereo mode, use
the jacks R-CH and L-CH (12); for the bridge
mode, use the jack BRIDGE (9).
Model STA-2000D: For the single-channel
mode, use the jacks CH 1 to CH 4 (12); for the
bridge mode, use the jacks BRIDGE (9).
The pin configuration of the plugs can be
found in chapter 8.1. After inserting a plug
into the jack, turn the plug clockwise until it
engages. To remove the plug, pull back the
latch on the plug and turn the plug counter-
clockwise.
Different possibilities for connecting multiple
speakers to one channel can be found in
fig. 5 on page 3 which also shows the
required power rating (P
) of each speaker
MIN
at the corresponding impedance (Z). When
interconnecting multiple speakers, always
observe the correct positive and negative
connections and make sure that the total
impedance is at least 4 Ω.
3) Set the selector switches for the operating
mode (10 and 11) to the required positions.
On model STA-2000D, these switches are
available for the channel pairs 1/ 2 and 3 /4.
Thus, the channel pairs can be used differ-
ently.
For the bridge mode, set the switch OPER-
ATING MODE (10) to the position BRIDGE.
For the stereo mode of model STA-1000D,
select the position STEREO; for the single-
channel mode of model STA-2000D, select
the position NORMAL.
When the bridge mode has been acti-
vated, use the switch BRIDGE MODE (11) to
define the impedance of the speaker con-
nected or the total impedance of the speaker
group connected (4 Ω or 8 Ω). Even when the
impedance is higher than 8 Ω, set the switch
to the position 8 Ω.
4) For power supply, use the mains cable pro-
vided to connect the mains jack (5) of the
amplifier to a socket (230 V~ / 50 Hz). After
connecting the blue POWERCON
the mains cable to the mains jack, turn the
plug clockwise until it engages. To remove
the plug, pull back the latch on the plug and
turn the plug counter-clockwise.
