Digital stereo PA amplifier
These instructions are intended for users
without any specific technical knowledge .
The speakers, however, should only be con-
nected by persons with the corresponding
technical knowledge . Please read these in-
structions carefully prior to operating the unit
and keep them for later reference .
All operating elements and connections
de scribed can be found on the fold-out
page 3 .
1 Operating Elements and
Connections
1 LED indicators, one for each amplifier
channel
CLIP = overload indication
SIGNAL = signal indication
2 Volume controls, one for each amplifier
channel
3 LED indicators
ON lights up when the amplifier is
switched on
PROTECT
briefly lights up after switch-
ing on and in case of malfunc-
tion (short circuit, overload or
DC voltage at a speaker ter-
minal)
OVERHEAT lights up to indicate overheat-
ing of the amplifier
BRIDGE
lights up to indicate activation
of the bridge mode
4 POWER switch
5 Mains jack for connection to a socket
(230 V/ 50 Hz) via the mains cable provided
6 Support(s) for the mains fuse(s)
Always replace a blown fuse by one of
the same type .
7 Signal inputs via RCA jacks
8 Signal inputs via XLR jacks (bal .)
9 SPEAKON jacks to connect speakers for
the bridge mode
10 Selector switch OPERATING MODE*
In the position BRIDGE, two amplifier
channels are interconnected for the
bridge mode . In the position STEREO or
NORMAL, the amplifier channels operate
separately .
11 Switch BRIDGE MODE* for the bridge
mode, to adjust the speaker impedance
Important! For the stereo / single-channel
mode, always set the switch to the
position "8 Ω" .
12 SPEAKON jacks to connect the speakers
STA-1000D: for the stereo mode
STA-2000D: for the single-channel mode
* Notes:
Only use the switches when the amplifier has been
switched off!
On model STA-2000D, these switches are available
for the channel pairs 1/ 2 and 3 /4 .

2 Safety Notes

This unit corresponds to all relevant directives
of the EU and is therefore marked with
WARNING This unit uses dangerous
mains voltage . Leave servic-
ing to skilled personnel only
and do not insert anything into
the air vents . Inexpert handling
may result in electric shock .
The unit is suitable for indoor use only . Pro-
tect it against dripping water and splash
water, high air humidity and heat (admissi-
ble ambient temperature range: 0 – 40 °C) .
Do not place any vessel filled with liquid on
the unit, e . g . a drinking glass .
The heat generated inside the unit must be
dissipated by air circulation; never cover the
air vents of the housing .
Do not operate the unit or immediately
disconnect the mains plug from the socket
1 . if the unit or the mains cable is visibly
damaged,
2 . if a defect might have occurred after the
unit was dropped or suffered a similar
accident,
3 . if malfunctions occur .
In any case the unit must be repaired by
skilled personnel .
Never pull the mains cable to disconnect
the mains plug from the socket, always
seize the plug .
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth; never
use water or chemicals .
No guarantee claims for the unit and no li-
ability for any resulting personal damage or
material damage will be accepted if the unit
is used for other purposes than originally
intended, if it is not correctly connected
or operated, or if it is not repaired in an
expert way .
If the unit is to be put out of oper-
ation definitively, take it to a local
recycling plant for a disposal which
is not harmful to the environment .
3 Applications
This digital stereo PA amplifier (class D) is
specially designed for applications on stage
and in discothèques . Model STA-1000D is
equipped with two amplifier channels (2 ×
500 W/4 Ω); model STA-2000D is equipped
with four amplifier channels (4 × 500 W/4 Ω)
which can be interconnected in pairs for the
bridge mode to increase the output power .
To ensure sufficient cooling, the amplifier
is equipped with temperature-controlled and
silent fans . Due to its design as a class D am-
plifier and a switch-mode power supply, the
amplifier offers high efficiency, compact size
and small weight . Extensive protective circuits
will protect the amplifier and the speakers
connected .
4 Setting Up
The amplifier is designed for installation into a
rack (482 mm / 19"), but it can also be placed
.
on a table . To ensure sufficient cooling, air
must always be able to flow freely through
all air vents .
4.1 Installation into a rack
For installation into a rack, the amplifier
requires a height of 2 RS (rack space =
44 .45 mm) . To prevent the rack from becom-
ing top-heavy, insert the amplifier into the
lower section of the rack . The front panel
alone is not sufficient for fixing it safely; ad-
ditionally use lateral rails or a bottom plate
to secure the unit .
The hot air given off by the amplifier must
be dissipated from the rack; otherwise, heat
will accumulate in the rack which may not
only damage the amplifier but also other units
in the rack . In case of insufficient heat dissi-
pation, install a ventilation unit into the rack .

5 Connecting the Amplifier

Prior to making or changing any connections,
switch off the amplifier and the units to be
connected .
1) Feed the input signals for the amplifier to
the XLR jacks (8) or to the RCA jacks (7):
At these jacks, connect, for example, the
output of a preamplifer or of a mixer . The
balanced XLR jacks should be preferred,
especially with long connection cables, be-
cause a balanced signal transmission will
provide the best interference suppression .
The input signal should have line level .
For the bridge mode: On model
STA-1000D, only connect the jack L
or L-CH of the left channel; on model
STA-2000D, only connect the jacks CH 1
and CH 3 . The signals at the other jacks will
be ignored in the bridge mode .
2) Connect the speakers to the SPEAKON
jacks:
Model STA-1000D: For the stereo mode,
use the jacks R-CH and L-CH (12); for the
bridge mode, use the jack BRIDGE (9) .
Model STA-2000D: For the single-channel
mode, use the jacks CH 1 to CH 4 (12); for
the bridge mode, use the jacks BRIDGE (9) .
The pin configuration of the plugs can be
found in chapter 8 .1 . After inserting a plug
into the jack, turn the plug clockwise until
it engages . To remove the plug, pull back
the latch on the plug and turn the plug
counter-clockwise .
Different possibilities for connecting
multiple speakers to one channel can be
found in fig . 5 on page 3 which also shows
the required power rating (P
speaker at the corresponding impedance
(Z) . When interconnecting multiple speak-
ers, always observe the correct positive and
negative connections and make sure that
the total impedance is at least 4 Ω .
